Litespeed M1

The Litespeed M1 puts on a new face for the next model year. The new M1 Shimano 105 build retains most of the great features and high performance configuration of the previous SRAM Apex build, but includes many enhancements based on the Shimano 105 drive train and crankset. As with the previous year’s model, the new build makes use of an elite monocoque carbon frame and fork that are normally reserved for the more expensive models, allowing the Litespeed M1 to offer exceptional dollar-for-feature value.

The name says it all; Litespeed bikes are light as a feather and as fast as greased lightning. Every single feature of the M1 reinforces this performance philosophy. The 24T carbon fiber frame is ultra-light but durable, offering a very optimal weight to stiffness ratio. The sturdy bottom bracket is built to optimize power transfer, providing more efficient pedaling action that thrusts the bike as far forward as possible with each turn of the pedal. To make sure that none of this power goes to waste, Litespeed’s Aerologic design makes sure that each part slices through the air with the least amount of resistance possible. The unique, flattened downtube, for example, is optimally aero-shaped to improve wind flow and the water bottle mount is shrouded within it to reduce drag. It even performs well on hill climbs, efficiently converting muscle power into forward momentum. The Litespeed M1 is an incredibly good-looking bike on a single mission: to ride fast.

While Litespeed built its name on Titanium bikes, the Litespeed MR1 demonstrates that the company has equal mastery over carbon fiber as it does over other exotic metals and materials. The MR1’s frame is molded using Litespeed’s Reactive Pressure Molding (RPM) technology, resulting in significant weight reduction while enjoying increased stiffness and improved durability. RPM also gives Litespeed precise control over the internal structure and wall thickness of its bike frames, allowing its engineers to explore design elements not available to those who use conventional bladder molding. All tube cross sections of the Litespeed M1 are built to be functionally and aerodynamically efficient. So, even as Litespeed joins the carbon fiber bandwagon, its products retain a level of uniqueness that sets them apart from the competition.

The M1 is Litespeed’s entry level carbon frame bike, except that it doesn’t ride like an entry-level bike at all. The Shimano 105 drive trains are among the best in its class, guaranteed to work flawlessly and provide great gear shifting if installed and set up correctly. The downtube’s relatively large diameter contributes to the M1’s sturdiness, as do the oversized chainstays, which stay rigid even under load. The seatstays, on the other hand, are thinner and more flexible, making the ride a bit more comfortable. The M1's headtube is a bit longer than those of other road racers, and this also contributes to a more comfortable ride.

The latest Litespeed M1 is equipped with the same accessories as the previous build: SRAM Apex derailleurs, shifters and brakes, SRAM Apex compact crank and bottom bracket, FSA stem and bar package and FSA RD-60 wheelset. The M1 continues to be a very reliable bike that provides solid and versatile performance for racing or training.
